1977-1980


1977 - RMT is founded by three former Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) environmental managers who specialized in solid and hazardous waste management and air quality.

1979 - RMT opens chemistry laboratory to support consulting operations.



 

 

 
1981-1985

1981 - RMT opens first branch office in Grand Ledge, MI.

1983 - WPL Holdings (parent company of Wisconsin Power & Light) purchases RMT, which now employs 52 professionals.

1984 - RMT acquires EDI Technology of Greenville, SC, which provides new southeast operations and broadens service capabilities

Committed to expanding resources and capabilities, RMT grows to include over 100 professionals in 3 U.S. offices.


 
1986-1990


1986 - RMT opens West Coast office.

1989 - RMT moves its home office and full-service laboratory to new quarters in Madison, WI, and also moves to new office quarters in Greenville, SC.  New branch office opens in Nashville, TN.

1990 - RMT now employs 400+ professionals in nine U.S. offices, including new offices in Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH.

RMT is honored with an Engineering Excellence Award by the Wisconsin Association of Consulting Engineers.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
1991-1995


1991 - RMT receives its first patent for an innovative metals treatment technology.  A new office is added in Milwaukee, WI.  RMT now employs 500 professionals.

1993 - RMT acquires two smaller specialized companies -- Hydroscience, Inc. (wastewater treatment and toxicity assessment and control) and Four Nines, Inc. (air emissions control and waste incineration design).   Jones & Neuse, Inc., an environmental consulting firm headquartered in Austin, TX, is acquired to provide a Gulf Coast presence. New offices are added in Appleton, WI, and Atlanta, GA.

1994 - RMT acquires Braithwaite Consultants, Inc., located in Ann Arbor, MI, which specializes in solid and hazardous waste management, remedial investigations, design, and construction management.

1995 - RMT opens a new office in Grand Rapids, MI.

RMT is honored with two Engineering Excellence Awards from the Wisconsin Association of Consulting Engineers and two from the South Carolina Association of Consulting Engineers.


 
1996 - 2000


1996 - RMT sells analytical laboratory to EnChem, Inc. RMT expands services internationally with local partners in Germany, Mexico, and Australia.

1997 - Now 550 employees strong, RMT celebrates its first 20 years of service.

1998 - RMT opens RMT International, Inc., in the United Kingdom, and now has 18 domestic offices with 600 employees.  RMT's parent company merges with IES Industries and Interstate Power to form Alliant Energy.

2000 - RMT launches Oxigent™, a proprietary chemical oxidation process that effectively destroys organic contaminants, and opens an office in Indianapolis, IN.

The American Consulting Engineers Council honors two RMT projects with National Engineering Excellence Awards.

RMT is selected for 3 Engineering Excellence Awards by the Wisconsin Association of Consulting Engineers and 3 by the South Carolina Association of Consulting Engineers.

2001
- RMT acquires Lake Engineering, Inc., in Atlanta, GA, and opens a satellite office in Toulouse, France.  RMT also opens a small branch office in Jackson, MS.

2002 - RMT celebrates 25 years.
